Magellan History

Magellan Center opened in Longmont Colorado January, 2005 in a 9,000 square foot space generously provided by Xilinx Corporation. Initial funding for Magellan Center came from ten Longmont families who each have a long tradition serving economic development and the community.

Magellan’s mission is to provide premiere services to our members – both businesses and individuals – by researching the World of Work and sharing the knowledge gained through member collaborations and cutting edge lifelong learning opportunities.

Our belief is two-fold: All future work will require a dedication to lifelong learning. All individuals should be given the education, skills and tools necessary to earn decent job providing enough salary to cover basic family needs – home, food, transportation, healthcare and education for their children.

To honor our mission and fulfill our beliefs, Magellan Center staff engages in three pursuits –

  • Research on topics immediately relevant to understanding current global employment trends, predicting future market opportunities, and suggesting policy that encourages successful economic development.
  • Collaborations with members and organizations that can exponentially deliver knowledge about the workplace and build global market alliances for the good of all individuals, businesses and communities.
  • Designing and sharing Lifelong Learning programs, seminars, workshops, focus groups and discussion opportunities to enhance the skills of individuals and businesses in the workplace, as well as guide young people who will be entering the workplace in the next 10-15 years.
